Bark Study 2012 11" by 14" graphite on white Stonehenge paper |
Bark Study exists as a series of ten 11” by 14” images displayed as a loose-paged book housed in a black archival box. Each study recreates specific details of bark from a black and white digital photograph using graphite on white Stonehenge paper. The process of drawing the natural and everyday subjects of bark seeks to elevate the generic to a position of significance. Their presence is given power through the extreme focus of line, value, and texture of the subject as well as eliminating surrounding context of the digital image.
